“Lady at Door”

This is a view of my front door. The statue is heavy; I estimate it weighs about 150 pounds. I moved it from Texas to Florida, and from Florida to here.

“Beautifully Grotesque”

I like gargoyles and grotesques. Everyday I pass this scene on my way to class. I find the contrast between the colors of the flowers and the grotesque very striking.

“Hoops”

I took this photograph at a basketball court in Fetzer Gym. I liked the shadows and lines of this image. This is the only image I am posting that has been digitally altered. I adjusted the contrast and slightly distorted the perspective.

“Today’s News”

After watching the introduction to the project, I wanted to include this type of shot as homage to those photo-documenters. I captured this image on the same commute as “Thwarted”. I also wanted to show the date and current events.

“Thwarted”

This shot was taken on my morning commute to school. There were seven or eight passengers on the bus including the driver, but I was able to hide their presences by blocking them out of frame with various objects on the bus. Unfortunately, one of the passengers who managed to sneak the tip of his toe into my picture thwarted me.

“One of two addictions”

I have two addictions; espresso and cigarettes. This photo was taken during the morning in my kitchen. I liked this image the least because of the framing, but included it since many people in class liked it the best out of the series.

Fist project for Intro to Photography

This is the first project in my intro to photography class. Our assignment was to take 24 photographs over a 24-hour time-period, recording all relevant information as we took the shots. I titled my series “Rituals in Solitude”. In addition to the outline of this assignment, I wanted to add a further stipulation. Since moving to Chapel Hill from Orlando a couple months ago my entire daily life has changed. I am in a new city with few familiar faces. I don’t even have an opportunity to see my fiancĂ©’ or my stepson as often as I did before I moved, so I wanted to add the feeling of isolation and solitude to my project. I achieved this by shooting all of my shots during the middle of a busy weekday, but taking the effort to exclude any people in my shots. With the exception of the image entitled “One of two addictions”, the following images are the photographs I liked the most. I included “One of two addictions” because others in class thought it was the best image out of the series.
